One of the more miserable stories of the summer was the death of David Foster Wallace - probably best known as the author of
Infinite Jest (1996) - at the age of 46. His passing precipitated an outpouring of tributes and memories (see
Slate, Salon, the New Yorker, and the
New York Times for starters). But our loss is also our gain.
